What is Retinol?

Retinol is a form of vitamin A commonly used in skincare for its powerful anti-ageing and skin-renewing benefits. Retinol accelerates skin cell turnover, boosts collagen production, and exfoliates, helping your skin look smooth and plump with fewer fine lines and wrinkles

Myth Busting

Separate fact from fiction with evidence-based information about retinol

"Retinol thins your skin."

Fact: While retinol can cause initial peeling or dryness, regular use actually thickens the skin's outer layer. It also boosts collagen production, helping to strengthen skin structure

"You can't use retinol if you have sensitive skin."

Fact: You may be fine using a lower concentration of retinol and plenty of moisturiser, but it's best to speak to a doctor first if your skin is particularly sensitive.

"You can't use retinol in summer."

Fact: You can use retinol year-round! Retinol makes your skin more sun-sensitive, but you don't have to stop using it in the warmer months. Just be sure to wear sunscreen everyday.

"Retinol gives instant results."

Fact: Patience is key! Retinol starts to work at a cellular level immediately, but it can take weeks to see real improvements in your skin.

"The more you use, the better."

Fact: Overdoing it can lead to irritation, redness, and drying. Less is more with retinol – start with 2–3 nights a week, then slowly build up.

"You can't mix retinol with other actives."

Fact: It depends. Salicylic acid, glycolic acid and vitamin C can all be drying, so consider alternating them with retinol. Retinol can be paired with niacinamide, peptides, and hyaluronic acid.
